The Process Development (PD) Research Associate will be responsible for designing and performing tissue engineering and media development studies while also aiding in large-scale bioprocessing endeavours. The PD Research Associate should be capable of designing, troubleshooting, and executing experiments independently while employing critical thinking and organizational skills. This laboratory-based position requires performing experiments/assays on a daily basis with relatively high throughput, followed by analysis and interpretation of the data, presentation of findings to the PD Team, and suggestion of follow-up experiments. You should be creative, enthusiastic, and a self-manager.

Duties Include

    • Cell/tissue culture techniques including thawing, culturing, freezing, and subcloning
    • Design, set-up, and execution of experiments independently or with guidance from team/project lead
    • Development of cell culture media, feeds, and processes for the production of tissues
    • Reagent/media preparation and inventory management
    • Performing routine cell culture assays (e.g. immuno-staining/imaging, protein/DNA quantification)
    • Utilization of high-throughput cell culture and imaging platforms
    • Participation in large-scale bioprocessing procedures for cell and tissue production
    • Proficient data collection, management, interpretation, and presentation

About You

    • BS in bioengineering (or biomedical engineering), cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related science 
    • Desired: BS with 1-2+ years of post-graduate research and development experience in the biopharmaceutical or similar industry
    • Working knowledge and hands-on experience of cell culture processes
    • Competent with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word 
    • Strong written and oral communication skills and comfort with frequent presentation of results to the team
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving, and cross-functional environment
    • Comfortable developing a scientific knowledge base by learning new methods from peers, seminars, and scientific literature.
    • Fosters a team environment by  collaborating scientifically with team members
    • Maintains laboratory notebooks with detailed experimental designs and results

Desirable skills

    • Background in skeletal muscle biology and/or tissue engineering
    • Experience with statistical (e.g JMP, GraphPad) and image analysis (e.g. ImageJ) software
    • Experience with common cell-culture assays (e.g. immuno-staining/imaging, protein/DNA quantification)
