Work with Gamechangers

Technical Manager (Python) at Streetbees
London, GB

Description

Streetbees is building the world’s first platform to understand human behaviour and decision making. We make human data accessible, anywhere in the world by connecting brands with real people on the ground to gather real-time in-the-moment insights at scale. We distil this data using machine learning technology to give our clients a clear vision of what their customers want next - supporting the growth of their business.

Having recently raised a $40M Series B investment led by Lakestar with participation from Atomico and Local Globe, our client roster is equally impressive. We work with the Unilever, Mars, PepsiCo, L’Oreal, McKinsey, Deloitte, Nestle, Deliveroo, Uber and the BBC to name just a few.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about managing a team that turns the raw material of unstructured data into a digestible form to deliver to multiple stakeholders - Data Science, Research and Strategy, and, of course, our top-notch roster of clients.

This a role that needs strong project management and prioritisation skills on top of rational and analytical ability to support data-driven decisions. The right person will have strong SQL and Python skills, capable with data querying, exploration, manipulation and visualisation.

As a Technical Manager, you lead a team of talented Data Analysts who work on our data pipeline, advise them technically on how to solve problems while managing the workflow of the team to tight deadlines. You should also be fine being hands on with code once in a while and will have a high degree of exposure to members of senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Project manage the deliverables of the team to deadlines and report to the Head of Ops and COO
  • Manage and develop a team of 7 Data Analysts who translate our data into usable insights for our clients and use the best practices to create value.
  • Technical advice and support: Provide your team with technical advice on how to improve scripts and solve potential problems. You’ll sometimes be hands on with code to help deliver things in a crunch.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: As the primary ‘owner’ of the valuable data we collect, you’ll need to collaborate with multiple teams within Streetbees - Data Science, Research and Strategy, and Community
  • Data visualisation and reporting: You'll be working to structure datasets to facilitate loading into proprietary reporting and visualisation tools, as well as designing the dashboards we deliver to our clients
  • Drive process improvements: Proactively identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies in these tasks and drive the implementation of these improvements within the team

Requirements

  • Project management and prioritisation is one of your strengths - you are able to understand and rank priorities not just for yourself, but also for the analysts within your team
  • At least 4 years of prior project work experience with client delivery deadlines
  • You will have excellent communication skills, be comfortable balancing a number of projects at once and be able to coordinate with multiple stakeholders in several teams
  • Strong data, reasoning and analytical skills are essential
  • You will ideally have at least 3 years of experience using Python and SQL on a daily basis. You will be comfortable with data querying (relational databases and data lakes using SQL and Python), data interchange (CSV, JSON etc), data analysis (such as Excel and BI tools, maybe even Access), data management and processing using Python scripts and notebooks (Pandas etc.)
  • At least 1 year of experience managing and developing a technical team
  • You will have some experience working in a data-driven organisation on data management and processing, as well as analysis, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
  • You will be organised and have a keen eye for data quality
  • You have experience building processes designed to improve efficiency end to end.
  • Prior experience with data visualisation is a nice to have.
  • Start-up attitude – You have to be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment, working with limited resources, and delivering high-quality work at the speed which is necessary for successful business growth.
