People Operations Specialist at Aiven
Berlin, DE

Headquartered in Helsinki with offices in Berlin, Sydney and Toronto, Aiven provides managed open-source data technologies, such as PostgreSQL, Kafka and M3, on all major clouds. We have raised $150M in VC funding to date and are backed by world-class investors including Atomico, IVP and Earlybird Venture Capital, among others. We plan to invest this funding back into open source.

Our roots are in open source. The services we provide are based on best-in-class open source data technologies. We are establishing the Open-Source Office that will coordinate and increase our contributions to the open source community.

Through Aiven, developers can do what they do best: create applications. Meanwhile, we do what we do best; manage cloud data infrastructure. We enable our customers to drive business results from open source resulting in true transformations far beyond their own backyards.

About the role

One of our fastest growing offices is in Berlin, where we are looking for a People Operations Specialist who knows German legislation and can work on employment agreements, as well as work with our external payroll providers, globally. This position can grow to a Manager position with two direct reports to start.

  • Ideally you have worked in a fast-growing technology/SaaS business and have experience from supporting employees with a strong engineering / technology background or even have one yourself
  • You have 4+ years of experience from HR tasks and have been involved in day-to-day employment matters related to e.g. payroll, legislation and employment contracts.
  • HRIS experience
  • Familiarity with German legislation
  • Being familiar with global mobility or learning activities is considered a valuable asset, but not a necessity
  • Strong mindset for continuous improvement and not afraid to get your hands dirty
  • Strong analytical skills, including reporting, synthesizing data to identify themes and creating solutions to address those issues
  • Fluent verbal and written skills in both English and German. English is mainly used among Aiveners, but for this role German skills are almost inevitable when communicating with external parties, authorities etc.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a diverse team of technical people across the organisation, both internationally and locally

  • A dynamic startup environment with a rapidly growing, international business
  • Highly experienced colleagues
  • Employee Stock option plan
  • Mobile phone and subscription
  • Private health and dental care
  • Flexibility to work remotely

You will be part of a highly-skilled, tight-knit and - with your help - growing team, making your leadership contribution essential to what is becoming a truly unique success story. If you’re interested, please send us your application.
