Meet the team behind this journey
At DeepL, we are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and elevate our global tax function. In this pivotal role, you will lead our tax team and serve as the primary point of contact for strategic tax matters, including indirect tax, corporate tax, transfer pricing and international tax law. Your responsibilities

Manage the tax function and lead the tax team.

Act as the primary point of contact for various strategic tax topics, particularly in the areas of global indirect tax, transfer pricing, corporate tax, international tax law and withholding tax.

Provide support on key strategic projects especially close to the CFO's agenda and support scaling the business with tax insights.

Review monthly VAT/GST/Sales Tax returns for several global indirect tax registrations.

Ensure tax compliance upon new market entries, monitor and react with your team on global changes especially in the field of indirect tax and international tax law.

Oversee quarterly corporate tax calculations and the corresponding annual corporate tax returns for our DeepL entities in DE, US, JP, UK, NL and PL.

Regularly develop and improve the Tax CMS, regularly review the risks and perform data reviews and tax testing / spot checks as part of the Tax CMS.

Reviewing and advising on tax-related contractual clauses and questions coming up in daily business from several stakeholders (Finance, Accounting, Legal, Sales).

Leading tax audits, supporting financial audits and tax DDs.
Qualities we look for
-
Completed studies in relevant fields like business law, law, tax law or business administration (Master's degree or Diplom-Finanzwirt/in); passed German tax advisor exam a plus (not a must).

At least 7 - 8 years of professional experience in a leading international consulting firm and in the tax department of a public listed company.

You have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge in global indirect tax in several jurisdictions and feel confident to advise on cross-border tax structuring (international tax, corporate tax and transfer pricing).

Ideally, initial experience in the professional and personal leadership of a small team in a remote environment.

Ability to present complex issues in an understandable and audit-proof manner and to write legal memos and give internal presentations.

Entrepreneurial mindset and pragmatic approach to solving tax issues on a day-to-day basis in a fast-changing environment and confident defending tax positions to internal and external stakeholders.

You will bring in your personal initiative and affinity to rethink and further develop existing tax processes as well as implementing and developing new tax and automation solutions.

Good basic understanding of German business and civil law; experience in UK, JP, PL, NL or US tax law is a plus.
