The Opportunity

Join the team that powers the engine of Hinge Health’s clinical and operational decision-making. As a Data Engineer II, you will build the scalable data foundations that allow us to deliver personalized MSK care to over 20 million members. You won't just move data; you will design the self-service tooling and secure governance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST) that empower our data scientists and application engineers to work independently. In this role, you will help us transform petabytes of complex healthcare data into real-time insights that directly improve member outcomes.

What You'll Accomplish

  • In your first 3 months: You will dive deep into our modern data stack (Python, dbt, Airflow, Tonic.ai) to audit existing pipelines. You will partner with SREs to establish baseline monitoring and alerting, ensuring we catch data quality issues before they impact our members.

  • In your first 6 months: You will translate complex business requirements into technical specifications, building robust ETL/ELT pipelines for both real-time and batch processing. You will enable business stakeholders to access and analyze 1st and 3rd party data independently.

  • In your first year: You will act as a subject matter expert, "architecting" resilient data frameworks and creating automated compliance strategies for HIPAA and GDPR. You will coach service teams on data ownership, helping them optimize their own pipeline performance.

Who You Are

  • A "Learn-it-all": You stay ahead of the curve on data engineering trends (like Data Lakehouse architectures or synthetic data with Tonic.ai) and constantly look for ways to automate the mundane.

  • A Trust Builder: You bridge the gap between technical complexity and business needs, communicating clearly with non-technical stakeholders and collaborating effectively with SRE and Product teams.

  • Resilient: You thrive in a high-growth environment where data volume scales rapidly. You view "poorly performing pipelines" not as a nuisance, but as an opportunity to engineer better solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of data engineering experience, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Distributed Systems Proficiency: Experience processing and storing large-scale data (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift).

  • Pipeline Builder: 1+ years of experience building pipelines using Spark, Kafka, and Airflow.

  • Modeling Expertise: 1+ years of experience designing data warehouse models (Star, Snowflake) and developing ELT/ETL pipelines.

  • Modern Stack Experience: 1+ year working with dbt.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.

  • Experience with Tonic.ai or similar synthetic data/privacy tools.

  • Excellent communication skills for translating technical problems to non-technical stakeholders.
