The Opportunity
Join the team that powers the "front door" of Hinge Health’s digital clinic. You will lead the engineering team behind our Accounts Platform—the critical identity, authentication, and permissions systems that enable 20+ million members, clinicians, and clients to access our care model securely. This is not just about keeping the lights on; it is about architecting a seamless, secure, and compliant entry point that builds trust from the very first interaction. You will partner with Product, Security, and Data leaders to solve complex identity challenges at scale, ensuring that every user’s journey is safe, simple, and reliable.
What You'll Accomplish
Instead of just a list of tasks, here is what success looks like in your first year:
In your first 3 months: You will dive deep into our Golang, gRPC, and AWS stack to understand the current architecture of our identity models. You will build trust with your team of 6+ engineers, audit our current security posture (HIPAA, SOC 2), and establish a clear baseline for platform reliability and developer velocity.
In your first 6 months: You will deliver on critical roadmap items, including integrating industry-standard IAM capabilities (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM). You will establish high-signal metrics and SLOs for availability and latency, ensuring our authentication experiences are as reliable as they are secure.
In your first year: You will own the long-term technical strategy for the Accounts domain, making key "build vs. buy" decisions for identity components. You will have grown the team—both by hiring top talent and mentoring existing engineers toward Senior and Staff levels—fostering a culture of continuous delivery, operational excellence, and inclusivity.
Who You Are
A "Learn-it-all": You stay close to the code (contributing ~15%) and leverage AI and automation to modernize provisioning and anomaly detection. You don't just stick to the status quo; you constantly seek better ways to secure and scale our systems.
A Talent Multiplier: You measure your success by the growth of your team. You have a track record of hiring exceptional engineers and coaching them through career milestones, fostering a psychologically safe environment where "owning what we ship" is a point of pride.
A Strategic Operator: You balance the need for speed with the rigor of healthcare compliance (HIPAA, HITRUST). You can navigate complex stakeholder maps (Product, Design, Security) to deliver multi-quarter roadmaps without losing sight of day-to-day operational health.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
-
2+ years of experience managing engineering teams (specifically teams of 5+ engineers), with a focus on performance management and career growth.
8+ years of total experience in the technology industry, with a strong background in backend systems.
Technical Fluency: 4+ years building secure, highly available backend systems using modern languages (e.g., Go, Java, TypeScript/Node, Python). You are comfortable reviewing code and driving technical design discussions.
Scale & Complexity: Experience building and operating complex, distributed systems (e.g., microservices, event-driven architecture) at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
Identity Expertise: Deep understanding of authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML) and SCIM.
Data Integrity: Strong grasp of relational data modeling (Postgres) and transactional integrity.
Regulated Environments: Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, CCPA).
AI/ML Curiosity: Experience applying AI technologies for software design, coding assistance, or anomaly detection.
