Klarna, briefly

At Klarna, we’re building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances. Working here means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else — you’ll build with AI, not watch it happen.

This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you’re capable of.

About the role

Klarna Bank AB is a Swedish-licensed bank, and its branches and cross-border services across the EU all answer to the same regulators. Every collections practice and every partner arrangement has to hold up to supervisory scrutiny in each market where it operates.

As Compliance Manager, you’ll be the subject matter expert on three areas of Klarna’s EU business: debt collection, third-party and outsourcing oversight, and payment services regulation. You’ll work with operational teams and senior stakeholders, and you’ll be the person they turn to when they need to know what the rules require in practice.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll oversee Klarna’s debt collection practices, including how customers in financial difficulty are treated, outsourced collection, and debt sale.

  • You’ll review third-party and outsourcing arrangements for compliance, from due diligence and contractual requirements to ongoing monitoring and exit planning, against EBA guidelines and national requirements.

  • You’ll track new and amended payment services requirements, including PSD2, PSD3, and the Payment Services Regulation, and turn them into internal standards and controls.

  • You’ll design, review, and analyse compliance metrics to find trends, anomalies, emerging regulatory risks, and potential process weaknesses or breaches.

  • You’ll act as the main link between Compliance and operational teams on these areas, giving them guidance they can act on.

  • You’ll advise on new products, partnerships, and white-label arrangements from a regulatory perspective, including through the new product approval process.

  • You’ll support Klarna’s interactions with regulators, examiners, and auditors, drawing on your knowledge of supervisory expectations and enforcement trends.

  • You’ll design and deliver compliance training that reflects current regulatory developments.

  • You’ll keep records of compliance activities that stand up in regulatory examinations, internal audits, and investigations.

  • You’ll write reports for senior management and the board that set out regulatory issues and the risks behind them, so decisions can be made with the facts in front of them.

Who you are

  • You’ve spent at least 5 years in compliance, risk management, internal audit, or control functions, preferably in fintech.

  • You know consumer debt collection requirements in the EU or in one or more Member States, including collections by third parties and debt sale.

  • You’ve worked with third-party risk and outsourcing requirements for regulated firms, such as the EBA Guidelines on outsourcing arrangements.

  • You know PSD2 and follow the development of PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation.

  • You write and speak fluent English, and you can translate legal concepts into operational practice.

  • You’ve managed projects across functions, and you can handle several high-priority tasks at once and meet tight deadlines without losing accuracy.

  • You build relationships across functions, and you challenge constructively when something needs challenging.

Bonus points for

  • Knowledge of German regulatory requirements, experience interacting with BaFin, or German language ability.

  • Experience interacting with the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) or other EU regulators, especially in regulatory exams or remediation.

  • Knowledge of the second Consumer Credit Directive (CCD2).

Things you should know before applying

  • Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.

  • Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.

  • Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and experience.

Please include a CV in English. Concrete beats comprehensive — what you built, what it did, what it cost. Curious to learn more about Klarna and what it’s like to work here? Explore our career site!
