Mission

Neko is redefining what prevention means, from treating illness when it arrives, to sustaining health before it's ever at risk. Our mission: make data-driven, preventative care accessible to more people, before symptoms appear.

In a single, non-invasive visit under an hour, proprietary technology and direct clinical care combine to deliver personalised, actionable insights. It's a team that thinks in 10x, not 10%. Every role here plays a part in building a world where prevention is the norm, and where your work genuinely helps people live longer, healthier lives.

About the role

As an Embedded Verification Engineer, you sit at the boundary between our hardware devices and our software. You build the test infrastructure that automates verification of software updates on our instruments, so new software ships quickly and with high confidence in its safety, performance and compliance.

You'll join the Verification & Validation team, which supports a wide regulated product portfolio spanning hardware medical devices (instruments), SaMD and health software. The team is small, growing and fast-moving, with real room to shape engineering quality, verification strategy, and how products are built as we scale.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement and maintain automated test frameworks and test rigs that exercise firmware and embedded software against the device hardware, sensors and instruments they control, and integrate them into the development and release pipelines.

  • Build the tooling and pipelines that verify software updates on our instruments automatically, so new software deploys fast and with high confidence.

  • Define test methods and acceptance criteria for system-level verification of our medical devices.

  • Plan and execute verification activities, system and regression tests, and produce audit-ready reports.

  • Contribute to traceability matrices, V&V plans and design reviews.

  • Collaborate closely with Firmware, Electronics, Algorithms, Software, QA/RA and Manufacturing Engineering to make requirements testable and to debug failures across hardware, firmware and software boundaries.

  • Ensure verification activities comply with Neko's SOPs and applicable regulatory standards (IEC 62304, IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, EU MDR).

  • Continuously improve verification processes, infrastructure and tooling, both in scope (more devices, more coverage) and in quality (faster feedback, less flakiness, clearer reports).

About you

Must-have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Embedded, Software or Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years in system or embedded verification of complex hardware-software products, ideally in medical devices, automotive, robotics, industrial automation or another regulated hardware industry.

  • Strong hands-on Python for test automation, test framework development and data analysis.

  • Working knowledge of C and C++, enough to read, understand and instrument firmware and embedded software under test, and to collaborate effectively with firmware engineers.

  • Solid understanding of embedded systems and common embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, USB, Ethernet).

  • Hands-on experience building automated test infrastructure for embedded devices: Hardware-in-the-Loop rigs, instrument control, fixture design, and integration into CI pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Jenkins or equivalent).

  • Comfortable debugging across hardware, firmware and software boundaries using oscilloscopes, JTAG/SWD debuggers and protocol sniffers.

  • Experience working under a regulated development process.

  • Clear, structured written and verbal English, with documentation habits that hold up in an audit.

  • A collaborative mindset, happy to work across Firmware, Electronics, Algorithms, Software, QA/RA and Manufacturing to make verification a shared success.

Nice to have:

  • Shell scripting (Bash) and infrastructure-as-code / YAML pipeline definitions.

  • Verifying devices that combine optics, sensors, custom electronics and embedded software.

  • Contributing to FDA submissions, EU MDR technical files or Notified Body audits.

  • Setting up reporting and dashboarding for continuous verification (test results, coverage, traceability) integrated into build pipelines.

Why this role matters

Neko's device portfolio is growing faster than manual verification can scale. As an Embedded Verification Engineer you build the automated verification backbone that lets our instruments be updated safely, quickly and with confidence, across every clinic and every country we operate in.
